History of UooriMeals Balla sauce
From local restaurant to food company
Start of business
In 2010, we followed our dreams by opening a small intimate restaurant in an equally small city on the outskirts of the GTA (Toronto), Kawartha Lakes, Ontario.
We wanted to share exciting flavors and healthy recipes from our home country, Korea, with the town we now called home, so we started with Kimchi. This staple has been used for many years not only for its unique taste but for its incredible health benefits.
Birth of Balla sauce
However, the bold spicy and salty flavor seemed to overwhelm our customer’s palettes, so we had to adapt! It was so important to us to respect our customers’ taste preferences and how far their Canadian taste buds were willing to venture. Taking their feedback to our kitchen we developed a custom flavor everyone could enjoy in the form of sauce.
With a nod to familiar Korea flavors, we lowered typical saltiness/spiciness and unveiled a unique umami tasting sauce we affectionately call, ‘Balla Sauce’.
Becoming popular
When ‘Balla Sauce’ made its debut on our 2010 menu in the form of an appetizer called “Shrimp & Balla” – we knew we had finally hit the mark! The re-orders increased daily and in 2016 we introduced “Sweet Potato Balla’ for those who’d prefer a non-seafood option.
We were proud to earn gratitude and compliments from our vegetarian customers! ‘Balla fans’ started to ask for bottles of the sauce to take home and enjoy with their families – we’re told it even rivals the Canadian classic – ketchup!
We love our Balla Sauce and encourage you to refresh your taste buds with a taste of our home, right in your own home!
